A SONG FOR OURSELVES World Premiere (film screening & live concert)
In the spirit of Creating Art, Creating Community, the JACCC presents the World Premiere of Tadashi Nakamura’s new film A SONG FOR OURSELVES: A personal journey into the life and music of Asian American Movement troubadour Chris Iijima.
During the 1970’s when Asians in America were invisible to the country- and more importantly even to themselves- the late Chris Iijima’s music provided the voice and identity an entire generation had been in search of. Tadashi Nakamura’s documentary film A SONG FOR OURSELVES shows how Chris’ music unleashed the contagious energy of the Asian American Movement with an unrelenting passion for social justice and a life well lived.
Live performances by Blue Scholars, Bambu, Kiwi and special guest artists Nobuko Miyamoto and Charlie Chin.
The $50 VIP ticket comes with your choice of a DVD of the film OR a mixtape by DJ Phatrick.
